This is the story about a school in rural South Africa close to the border of Kruger National Park and all the luxury Game Lodges there.

Luzile Xhosa, the principal of the school, talks about the way the school is run, why learning English is important for the children and could be a way into a better future. The school is funded by a Canadian charity project: Tour operator Marianne Schubeck from Victoria, BC is raising money to get this preprimary school going and to give a future to the children.

Lynx

A first test of the Canon 5D MK II ‘s video-function. Shot at ISO 800 with EF 300mm/2,8 + 2x Ext. at f 5,6 and EF 28mm/1,8 at f 1,8 and f 22.

I shot these scenes at Harz Mountain National Park in northern Germany where they have a very succesful reintroductery project for the Lynx. The Lynx in this video live in an enclosure to show visitors of the park how these cats look like and how they live. The enclosure is the public relations part of the reintroductery project.

For this shot I used a rig build from parts I allready have in my toolbox. I think handling the camera with a rig makes thinks easier and more convenient.

On Safari…

Shot on two Game Drives at Balule Game reserve with a Canon HF 100. There the Pondoro Game Lodge is an excellent base to enjoy the bush and to see the wild African animals. The Game Reserve borders Kruger which means that there is no fence between them and Kruger an that the game can roam free between the park an the reserve.

God in Germany

A Project of Photographers of VISUM Agency, Hamburg, supported by Leica Camera AG
“We are Pope” was the headline of Germany`s largest newspaper BILD when Joseph Kardinal Ratzinger became Benedict XVI last year. It was the first time after 500 years that a german became head of the Catholic church. Giving out the guidelines for millions worldwide we take a deeper look into his home country.
Religion in Germany is much dominated by christian traditions of the Catholic and the Protestant Church. Both suffer from considerable loss of members but nonetheless the traces of christian rituals maintain their ground and still mark the corner posts of our life: from birth to death and inbetween the ceremonies of Wedding, Easter, Christmas and the like. The modern West might not be fond of dogma anymore, but apparently we yearn for rituals which seem to be the common language of all spiritual quests. Just remember the funeral of Pope John Paul II and the following World Youth Day in Cologne with Pope Benedikt XVI, who then was featured as a popstar by german youth magazine ãBravoÒ. What does this mean and how do the churches react to this phenomenon when on the other side they have to close down their places of worship for lack of churchgoers and lack of funds?
This is a project of the following VISUM photographers:

Bernd Anrnold Christian Burkert Thomas Dashuber Jesco Denzel Sven Doering Peter Duddek Christopher Clem Franken Dirk Gebhardt Björn Göttlicher David Klammer Carsten Koall Thomas Langreder Jörg Mueller Ralf Niemzig Rolf Nobel Kai Remmers Heiko Specht Wolfgang Steche Stefan Sobotta Nicole Werner
